Jenny Smith - Renovation Manager

Jenny SmithJenny was trained to be a biologist, so she has a slightly different view of the world than your average supply chain professional. She says she sees the world – and business – as an ecosystem. "Everything is interconnected. Therefore, we must take care of the environment and the people that we depend on – whether it's family, friends or co-workers."

That's why, when she joined Burt's Bees in 2000 for her first two-year stint, she was looking for a position at a growing company that understands and upholds sustainable business practices. She found it here in a culture that is also "high-energy, fast-paced and caring." That culture is what brought her back to Burt's Bees, after a brief hiatus, in 2006.

Walking the talk is easy for Jenny since her personal beliefs and values are very similar to those we embrace here at Burt's Bees in our efforts to benefit The Greater Good. Jenny does her best to buy groceries from local farmers. When she travels, she tries to buy unique artwork from local artisans. She is even in the process of buying a hybrid car. She says, "I try to live my values everyday – both at home and at work." She would also like to get more involved with volunteering.

Today, Jenny's volunteer efforts include helping to found and serving on the leadership team of Triangle Net Impact Professional, an organization that brings together local professionals seeking to network and take action to foster a new generation of leaders who use the power of business to create a better world. She gets a lot out of her involvement with the group because, she says, "This organization gives me the chance to connect with like-minded professionals who are interested in sustainability and corporate social responsibility."

When she's not busy working or networking, Jenny enjoys travel, gardening, bird watching, sailing and attending events and lectures about sustainability and green building.

Jenny's favorite Burt's Bees product: Peppermint Shower Soap (formerly known as our Green Goddess Body Bar). "It was discontinued and there was such an outcry from consumers that we reintroduced it as the Peppermint Shower Soap. I'm so glad it's still around today!"
